Community and Social Action
and service its law.
This is our great covenant:
To dwell together in peace,
To seek the truth in love,
And to help one another.
-- James Vila Blake
Our church has been active in local community programs that include Adopt-a-mile, Builder's Care, Habitat for Humanity, Food Banks and Clothing Closets, Hospice of Northeast Florida, The Shepherd's Center, The Florida-Georgia Blood Alliance, People With AIDS Coalition of Jacksonville, and other specific service projects throughout the years. These programs offer a way for us to channel our efforts to work for the good of our community. Many of our members are also involved in meaningful community service on an individual basis. As Unitarian Universalists, we aspire to put our values to work through service.
Our group community service and social justice efforts are coordinated by our Community/Social Action chairs, Nikki Bak, Melinda Kluding, and Linda Marina-Gillespie.
Currently, the congregation is involved in the following projects:
- First Harvest Food Bank and Clothing Closet
- Meals-On-Wheels
- Dignity U Wear
- Fair Trade Coffee and Products
- Shelter Alliance Cell Phone collection
- Earth Day
- Various Charitable Walks/Races
- First Coast Clean Up
In addition to local activities, our congregation supports the programs and projects of our denomination's Service and Social Justice committees.
