Membership

At Buckman Bridge Unitarian Universalist Society our active and diverse membership comes from many walks of life. We may have different reasons for joining and have diverse spiritual backgrounds; yet we all find common ground within the community, enjoy the fellowship and have a desire to support a liberal religious voice in the community.

Buckman Bridge Unitarian Universalist Society exists to offer a warm, open community for celebration and worship, discussion, education and support. We provide a place where individuals meet and find accepting and understanding friends. We look to each other for intellectual stimulation and emotional support through all stages and difficulties of life. We also help our children develop their own religious beliefs.

We openly extend the invitation to membership to those who share our affirmation of the Principles and Purposes of Unitarian Universalism, and who support the religious goals and activities of our church. We have no requirement for acceptance of a doctrine or creed when signing our membership book. We ask members to affirm and promote the stated principles of Unitarian Universalism. We believe that each person has unique abilities to share with the congregation, and offers support in their own unique way. As a member of the UUA and the Florida District, we pay annual dues to both organizations for each of our members. We ask members to help us develop an annual budget and to pledge whatever amount they feel comfortable pledging to help us meet our goals.

Those considering membership will benefit from our Newcomers class. This 3 week course meets after Sunday services and covers a topics and questions to those seeking membership or just information about Unitarian Universalism. The class explores our spiritual journey and goals, Unitarian and Universalist history, and our own church's structure and history. The next classes to be held very soon. Please see our Membership Chairperson for details.
